1.2Billion Naira Zungeru Power Plant To Begin Supply Of 700MW To National Grid By November 31st, 2023.

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu says the long-awaited Zungeru Hydroelectric power project has been completed, and is to start supplying 700 megawatts of electricity to the national grid by November 31st, 2023.
The minister who disclosed this during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja, the Nigerian Federal capital noted that the development will boost power supply nationwide and significantly fill the gap in the nation’s electricity demand.
The Zungeru hydroelectric power plant is a $1.2 billion investment by the federal government to expand the base-load generation in the country and enhance the grid’s ability to take renewable energy.
Speaking on the operational licenses issued to investors in Nigeria’s power sector, Adelabu also disclosed that the ministry is currently carrying out investigations on the renewal of licenses to the distribution companies.
The ten year old licenses issued to the Electricity Distribution Companies, and Electricity Gerneration Companies (GENCO), are due for renewal on November 1, 2023.
