University of Ibadan Medical Students Protest Prolonged Electricity Supply Disruption At Teaching Hospital.

Medical Students of the University of Ibadan in Nigeria are demanding for a restoration of electricity at the University Teaching Hospital Ibadan[UCH], calling on the Federal government to as a matter of urgency put an end to the persistent black out which has adversely affected surgical procedures, interrupted life saving treatments and compromised vaccines storage at the hospital.

The students who took to the streets of Ibadan in agitation over the epileptic power supply to the institution staged a peaceful protest from the University Teaching Hospital premises to Oyo State and Federal Secretariat to press home their demands.

The Students led by its Union President, Bolaji Aweda said the students and the institution have been affected by the power outage in so many ways and this is due to the inability of the management to pay its electricity bill to Ibadan electricity distribution company, IBEDC.

The Students appealed to the federal government to intervene by restoring power to enable students be effective in their studies.

Addressing the protesters, the Executive Assistant on security to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, Sunday Odukoya rtd, promised to relay the students appeal to the appropriate authorities.

The University College Hospital( UCH) has been experiencing power outage for the past 82 days due to debts owed to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC.

The medical school of the University was a destination point for students across the world seeking medical training back in the 1950’s.
