A group of former Group Managing Directors (GMDs) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has commended the current management team for the successful rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refinery.
The former GMDs, who inspected the refinery during their meeting in Port Harcourt, described the achievement as “magic.”
They noted that the rehabilitation was not a routine Turnaround Maintenance (TAM) but a full overhaul that transformed a 1965 facility into a state-of-the-art plant.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Dr. Jackson Gaius-Obaseki, who served as GMD from 1999 to 2003, emphasized that critics fail to understand the magnitude of work involved.
He also called for public understanding on petroleum pricing, noting that it is influenced by crude oil prices.
The former GMDs urged the current GCEO, Mele Kyari, to remain focused on delivering value to Nigerians.
They also commended the success of the project, which they described as a testament to courage and dedication.
Other former GMDs present at the meeting included Chamberlain Oyibo, Funsho Kupolokun, and Andrew Yakubu.
