Gombe, Anambra To Benefit From EU Project Interventions To Advance Nigeria’s Drive Towards Clean Energy

The European Union has introduced two new projects worth 9 million Euros in Nigeria’s Energy Sector as part of its commitment to supporting the federal government to end energy poverty in the country.
EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Samuela Isopi at the official launch in Abuja, the Nigerian Federal capital said the projects will increase the capacity of small hydro power in Nigeria’s total Energy mix to promote productivity along agricultural and other business value chains.
The unveiling of the two projects in Nigeria by the European Union, according to the Eu ambassador is first to assist in the provision of clean, affordable and sustainable energy for all, while the other project aims to advance Nigeria’s green and just transition to its 2060 Net Zero Emissions target through Circular Economy.
Both projects worth 9 million Euros are part of the EU Global gateway strategy, an initiative geared towards enhancing connectivity, fostering economic growth and promoting sustainability through collaboration.
The Eu ambassador said two states have been chosen to benefit from the two designated projects, Gombe State in North East Nigeria and Anambra state in South East Nigeria have been captured in the first phase of the pilot project with the expectation that the projects will be replicated in all six geo-political zones of the country.
The Eu ambassador further noted, that when fully implemented, the projects will push Nigeria closer to its aspiration of a de-carbonized economy, and a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
