New WAPCo MD Reaffirms Committment To Delivering Clean, Affordable Gas Across Four Member Countries Of Nigeria, Benin, Togo And Ghana.

The west african gas pipeline has disclosed its intention to maintain its core mandate of delivering clean and affordable gas across the four member countries of Nigeria, benin, togo and Ghana, to enable the growing population in these countries have access to the region’s energy needs.

This was disclosed in lagos by the new managing director of the company abiodun bodunrin during a media engagement with energy editors where he spoke on different areas of operation of the west african gas pipeline, WAPCo.

Bodunrin while speaking on the mission, core objectives of WAPCo and the projections for the year 2026, said the company was set up primarily to deliver gas across the four countries in a safe and responsible manner, the new MD who noted that the company has been able to deliver on this mandate, said in the time past, movement of gas across the pipelines was uni-directional only from Nigeria to benin, togo, and finally ghana, disclosing that this trend has since changed in recent history, has movement of gas within the four member countries is now bi-directional, as gas can now be moved from any point between the four countries. While giving further insights on the development, bodunrin noted that unlike before, gas can now be taken in a reverse flow from takoradi in ghana for instance to any other part of the countries.

While acknowledging that the mission of the west african gas pipeline, WAPCo, is clear and unambiguous, abiodun bodunrin said the pursuit of the company in the coming years is to further intensify efforts for the company to be an international company that transport natural gas across the four member countries in a manner to create value for the diverse stakeholders.”West africa has a growing population, with great energy needs and demands, WAPCo is well positioned to facilitate the provision of energy for this growing population”.

On the core objectives of WAPCo, abiodun bodunrin said the will continue to explore the huge gas potentials of the four member countries, maximising the value of the huge resources to stakeholders, shareholders and other key state actors in the entire value chain. He also disclosed that WAPCo can not go down on one of it’s core objectives which is to deliver gas across board between the four countries, declaring that if the company goes down on this objective, the development could potentially have overriding impact on power issues in benin, togo, including ghana. The new managing director further noted, that under his watch, the constant need to engage critical stakeholders will continue, declaring that an efficient workforce is needed to drive the mission, and objectives of WAPCo.

While admitting that some of the company’s facilities have been overtaken by new advancement in technology, bodunrin said facility upgrades will be undertaken to ensure continuity in its operation just has he disclosed that for eleven years no cases of operational accident have occurred in the company, a development he said, is testament to the priority given to issues of safety, “2025 is a very good year for WAPCo, all our offshore pipelines are in good condition” he declared.

In his closing remarks at the media engagement, the new WAPCo managing director who acknowledged that the energy future for the west african sub region is bright said legislations to advance regional energy growth will be pursued with much vigour in the coming year 2026, with the single aim of ensuring that member countries have access to affordable, clean energy.
