The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has denied reports that it has directed the halt of gas supply to power generating companies (GENCOs) due to payment obligations.
According to the NMDPRA, this report is “false and completely unfounded”.
The Authority in a recent statement issued clarified that the report has no connection to the recent stakeholders’ engagement held in Lagos, where the implementation of the wholesale supply license was discussed.
It says the event aimed to sensitize stakeholders on the requirements, opportunities, and benefits associated with the license, as provided by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.
The NMDPRA reassured stakeholders and the public that every effort is being made to ensure seamless and uninterrupted supply and distribution of natural gas and petroleum products to end-users, especially during the festive season and into 2025.
This clarification comes as Nigeria’s power sector continues to face challenges, including grid collapses and power outages.
The national grid has collapsed several times in 2024, with the latest incident occurring on December 11, 2024.
