The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria has called on it’s members nationwide to conduct immediate inspection, calibration, and verification of dispensing equipment following latest directive by NMDPRA to ensure accurate measurement that enables consumers of petroleum products receive the full value of the products they purchase.

Maintain accurate records of calibration and maintenance activities including a call for members to
Cooperate fully with regulatory inspection teams and Uphold the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and consumer protection.
PETROAN in the statement said it remains committed to promoting best industry practices, compliance to regulatory directives among other roles that provide the right environment for businesses to operate.
The call on members by PETROAN according to the statement flows from concerns raised by the NMDPRA over reported cases of under-dispensing of petroleum products at retail outlets across the country. The authority had in it’s own press statement on the subject issue noted that such practices constitute breach of consumer trust, an action it says will not be tolerated going forward.
“In line with the directive of the Authority, all petroleum retail outlet operators are required to immediately carry out the calibration and verification of dispensing pumps and totalizers to ensure accurate measurement and guarantee that consumers receive the full value of the products they purchase” the NMDPRA had earlier declared.
The NMDPRA had also warned that it maybe forced to sanction including revoking operating licenses of retail outlets in accordance with applicable regulations if violations of its directive persists.
“NMDPRA remains committed to protecting consumers, protecting transparency and upholding the integrity of petroleum transactions nationwide” the NMDPRA also clarified. Beyond PETROAN, other associations affected by the NMDPRA latest directive include MEMAN, DAPPMAN, and IPMAN.
