The Nigerian government has again reaffirmed it’s policy drive aimed at ensuring the use of compressed natural gas as a source of energy to power automobiles in the country.
National programme officer of the presidential initiative on CNG, Micheal Oluwagbemi disclosed this in Ado Ekiti at the launch of the conversion incentives programme in Ekiti State.
The Presidential CNG Initiative was approved by president bola tinubu in 2023 to provide cheaper & cleaner fueling alternative for Nigerians.
The national programme officer of the initiative, Micheal Oluwagbemi who noted that the initiative is a well thought scheme aimed at reducing the impact of fuel subsidy removal in 2023 advised Ekiti residents and Nigerians at large to embrace the scheme.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who was represented by the commissioner for public utilities at the lauch, Prof Bolaji Aluko expressed the state’s readiness to key into the initiative of the federal government .
Industry leaders at the event who highlighted some of the benefits of compressed natural gas to power automobiles in the country also called on members of the public to key into the alternative energy source to power their vehicles .
The federal government also used the lauch to handover over fifteen CNG powered buses to the ekiti state government for use by residents .
Still on the CNG policy issue, Acting President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Aliyu Issa has disclosed plans by the Nigerian government to put in place 100 units of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion kits free of charge in each state of the Federation to ease conversion process from petrol powered vehicles to CNG compliant vehicles to bring down the cost of high transportation in the country.
Ore who also disclosed that states like Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and FCT have started receiving the free Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) kits said government has also entered agreement with capable conversion agents to handle the conversion process with ease.
The presidential initiative on compressed natural gas is the government organ driving the process of deepening the CNG gas policy of government following the removal of fuel subsidy in 2023.
