WIEN Will Be Deeply Involved In The Energy-Mix Conversation To Strengthen Nigeria’s Energy Future- Eyono Fatai-Williams

President, women in energy network WIEN, Eyono Fatai-Williams has called on women to be part of the national agenda to develop the energy sector in Nigeria in the overall economic interest of the country.

The president made the call in lagos on Wednesday at the sideline of a media engagement with energy correspondents at the society of african International petroleum exhibition and conference SAIPEC which comes to a close on Thursday.

In her speech, Eyono Fatai-Williams who noted that WIEN as a body represents women in the entire value chain of the energy sector, said the platform brings women together with the singular aim of encouraging members to remain steadfast and bring value to the table wherever they found themselves within the sector. While noting the importance of the group’s participation in conferences, particularly those with direct bearing with the industry, the president of WIEN further declared that women should not be seen just as numbers, but as key partners who have something valuable to bring to the table.

She further maintained that inline with the position of the minister of state, petroleum resources, Oil, to deepen and sustain the conversation around energy-mix as against the growing global debate on energy transition, members would be encouraged to be deeply involved and to help strengthen the discussions around energy-mix in Nigeria’s energy journey for the future.”For WIEN, because we represent women in the entire energy value chain, it is very important that our voices are held in the industry conferences, particularly in the strategic industry conferences, we have members in PETAN, it is important to us that the value we bring is also represented here in PETAN ”

While speaking on the structure of WIEN, Eyono Fatai-Williams said the body is structured around different directorates which include, the upstream directorate, midstream directorate, downstream directorate, power and renewable directorate, including the gas directorate just to ensure that the interest of the entire value chain is adequately accommodated.

On membership, the president of women in energy network said the group has over 30 corporate membership, with over a thousand individual women members, with specific focus to grow capacity through various sessions which include, networking session, knowledge session, and the masterclass session where specific issues are discussed as it impacts across various value chain in the energy sector in Nigeria.

Eyono Fatai-Williams who was joined by other members of her executive during the media chart had previously led a mentorship session with young female professionals, including young undergraduate university students where they were taught and tasked on the need to be firm and make the required difference that will impact positively on the energy sector as they begin a future career in Nigeria’s energy space.
