The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Capacity Strengthening Workshop for selected energy editors in print, broadcast, and online media platforms to enhance their understanding of regulatory activities in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) has ended in Uyo, the akwa ibom state capital.
Nerc’s Commissioner, Research and Data Analytics Division, Dr. Fouad Animashaun in his opening remarks on the first day of the workshop expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the media, and emphasized the importance of stakeholder management, which he noted remains fundamental to driving growth of the subnational electricity market in Nigeria.
Participants in the cause of the various sessions during the 3-Day engagement were exposed to technical training from NERC’s Research and Data Analytics team on models for interpreting industry data, statutory reports, and performance trends.
Interactive sessions provided opportunities for participants to engage directly with NERC officials on regulatory developments, market reforms, and consumer issues.
Some key highlights of the training include exposure of Participants to electricity market reforms, consumer protection, and stakeholder engagement including technical sessions on industry data analysis and evidence-based reporting, with other sessions focusing on regulatory developments, market reforms, and consumer issues.
Nerc as a body also used the workshop to reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening media engagement and promoting informed reporting on the electricity sector, and encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve public understanding of the electricity sector with a further commitment to strengthening collaboration with the media in advancing transparency and consumer education.
Some of the participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity with a pledge to use the knowledge gained during the training to build robust reportage of the electricity sector in their respective media pplatforms.
