University Of Ibadan, University Of Nigeria, Ahmadu Bello University, Five Others Get Government Support On Mini Grid Construction To Boost Electricity Supply In Schools.

The Federal Government says it has started the construction of mini-grid systems ranging from 1.1 to 12.5MW across tertiary institutions and teaching hospitals in the country as parts of efforts to guarantee regular and sustainable electricity supply in various campuses across the country . So far, according to government, 24 institutions have benefited under Phases I to III — and through TETFund, there are further moves to construct 4 to 6 new mini-grids (2–10MW capacity) in select universities, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration under president bola ahmed tinubu. .
Under phase phase 4 of the energisisng program of tertiary institutions eight more institutions which include university of lagos, university of Nigeria, ahmadu bello University, University of benin, and the University of Ibadan, and others were unveiled for the mini grid project in Nigeria’s federal capital, abuja on thursday.
Vice Chancellors of the respective universities joined the team from the rural electrification agency to mark the milestone, as the agency days it remains committed to expanding access to clean, reliable energy across campuses nationwide.
According to the rural electrification agency, reliable electricity will revolutionize all campuses, boost research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and academic excellence. The agency further noted that the latest effort by the federal government to stabilse electricity supply in campuses across the country is more than infrastructure; it’s an investment in human capital and national prosperity.
