The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has hosted the Third Quarter Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) meeting which held in Lagos on Monday.
The gathering brought together key stakeholders to review sector performance, address emerging challenges in the nation’s electricity supply value chain, and align on practical measures to enhance the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of Nigeria’s electricity supply.
In his opening address, NERC Chairman Dr. Musiliu Oseni reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to collaborative power sector reforms. He highlighted the implementation of key regulatory initiatives, emphasizing the recent constitution of the Electricity Act (EA) Transition Committee by the Honourable Minister of Power.
The meeting featured strategic updates from various market participants, focusing on several critical developments:
The meeting reviewed Q3 NESI Performance, xraying industry performance metrics for the third quarter including Updates from State Electricity Regulatory Commissions on how far they have gone in establishing state markets and improving local operational performance.
Other areas of focus of the meeting include
Grid Reliability: TCN updates on ongoing transmission infrastructure upgrades and Transmission Loss Factor (TLF) improvements.
SBT Compensation: Status updates on the Special Compensation program.
Automated Metering: NISO initiatives designed to boost market transparency, data accuracy, and operational efficiency.
Infrastructure Protection: Extensive discussions on curbing vandalism by strengthening collaboration with state governments, security agencies, and host communities.
Metering Rollout: Meter installation performance has reached 61.51%, demonstrating sustained progress in closing the metering gap and improving billing accuracy.
Stakeholders concluded the session with a renewed commitment to deepening collaboration, accelerating sector reforms, strengthening market performance, and ultimately delivering more reliable electricity to all Nigerians.
