The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has hosted the Gombe State Electricity Regulatory Commission (GOSERC) to forge a collaborative partnership aimed at transforming electricity supply in the state.
Speaking at the meeting, which held Monday, NISO’s MD/CEO, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, FNSE, assured GOSERC of support to develop a sound business model that will enable the state to access more power. He said Gombe State is a hub for commercial activities, and the establishment of the industrial park by the Governor remains inspiring warranting the urgent need for increased power supply to the state.
Chairman of GOSERC, Dr. Usman Abba Arabi, MNI, on his part noted that Gombe State is currently receiving 30MW, whereas its energy requirements and required capacity would allow it to receive up to 200MW. He said the Governor has mandated the Commission to work towards improving power supply in the state, identifying NISO as a critical partner in achieving the objective.
The NISO delegation that joined the MD/CEO in the meeting included Executive Director, Market Operations, Engr. Dr. Edmond Eje, Executive Director, Finance and Corporate Services, Babajide Ibironke, amongst others. The GOSERC team led by the Chairman, Dr. Arabi, MNI also has in attendance, Usman Sule Commissioners Ahmed Ibrahim, Ali Lydia, Talatu Abubakar, and Abubakar Sa’ad.
Gombe state is one of the states who have keyed into the electricity act 2023 which empowered sub-regional governments in Nigeria to establish its electricity market to enable it generate, distribute and transmit within its jurisdiction.
