The Nigerian upstream petroleum regulatory commission, NUPRC, says it remains committed to deepening transparency and accountability in its operations.
Commission chief executive, NUPRC, engineer Gbenga komolafe stated this while giving his goodwill message at a two day strategic media workshop for energy correspondents in lagos where he used the event to highlight some of the achievements of the commission under his watch. Engineer komolafe who was represented by efemona bassey, deputy director, human resources in the commission noted that the year 2025 has witnessed remarkable growth in the downstream with Nigeria’s dailly crude production on multiple occasions exceeding 1.7million barrels per day.
The commission chief executive who also disclosed that the nation’s rig count has risen to nearly 70, declared that over 40 of these rigs remain in active stage.
Engineer Gbenga Komolafe also noted that development plans worth approximately 20billion U.S dollars have been achieved in the last ten months. On future plans, the authority chief executive said the NUPRC remains fully committed to the national aspiration of adding one million incremental barrels of oil per day to Nigeria’s daily production profile.
“To this end, the commisssion will conduct another licensing round on december 1st, 2025, one that we anticipate will be even more transparent and globally competitive than the 2024 round”.
This initiative according engineer komolafe is designed to open new frontiers, unlock fresh prospects and further strengthen Nigeria’s reserves base.
While calling on energy correspondents to report accurately developments in the nation’s energy sector landscape in the cause of doing their constitutionally assigned responsibilities, engineer Gbenga komolafe also noted that Nigeria’s position as africa’s leading producer depends not just on policy, regulations and geology, but also on how the country’s story is told, given the sensitive nature of the oil and gas sector, if the country is to attract investments, which he says is at the heart of the petroleum industry act document.
